My areas of practice have gradually evolved into a concentration of estate planning (wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, probate matters, guardianships, and conservatorships); real estate matters and handling of small business-type transactions (forming corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships). For many years I was a part-time public defender and handled principally child protection and termination of parental rights cases.

From the beginning the firm was a general practice office; and it is expected that that will be the same in the future, as this is the type of service that the citizens of the Northfield area community desire. We believe that honest representation at a modest cost is what the community needs. As has been said many times, practicing law is not a means to make a lot of money; but it is satisfying and interesting, and is enjoyable. Also, it feels good accomplishing objectives for clients.

I have long been active and involved in the community from the very beginning, including various civic organizations: Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce President 1962; Northfield Jaycees President 1961, Northfield Lions President 1965; Northfield United Fund Chairman 1959; Knights of Columbus Grand Knight 1956; Northfield Golf Club President 1965; and Secretary-Treasurer of Rice County Bar Association from 1967 to the present; Special Municipal Judge for Northfield from 1959 to 1965; Assistant Rice County Attorney part-time in 1966 and 1967; Mayor of Northfield 1969-1973 and 1991-1995 (eight years); served on the Community Resource Bank Board of Directors for approximately 25 years (1972 to 1997); served on Northfield Retirement Community Board of Directors for approximately 6 years from 1998 to 2004; and has been on the Review Board of the Cambridge State Hospital and its successors, serving developmentally disabled clients and mentally challenged individuals from 1982 to the present. I am a retired Naval Air Reserve Lieutenant Commander (air intelligence) with 23 years of service.
